Math: Making it Functional for Our Special Ed Classroom!

My students need hands on math activities such as number games, a talking cookie car and math activity jars.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Szczecinski's classroom raised $488

My Students

Some of the math we learned in school is complex and confusing, while other math skills are ones we use all day long. These are the concepts that my seven students with disabilities struggle to understand the MOST!

Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.

Due to low enrollment and changes within our school district, our school was one step away from being closed last year. Despite the challenges that my students face, they are incredibly resilient. The seven students that learn in my classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, desire to learn, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.

My Project

Math is such a crucial skill for all children to learn so that they can be functional members of their communities. My students are fully capable of learning and maintaining these same skills, but need hands-on, multi-sensory, engaging tools to help them! My students have learning goals of number identification and addition. The materials requested are items like hands on math games, manipulatives to help with counting, ready-to-go addition kits, and toys that my students will be motivated by without even realizing they are learning! With these materials, they will be meeting their goals in no time!

My students struggle to learn basic concepts, but why not make learning fun?

Your generous donation could literally change the trajectory of my students learning! Thank you for your consideration in building the functional skills of our little learners!
