My upper elementary school students are of great diversity. The majority come from a low income, urban area with a large percentage of special needs students. Each year, 90% of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. My students have so much going on in their lives that I don't want the ability to purchase the basic school supplies to be an additional hurdle for them.
As the 2020-2021 school year continues to extend its remote learning, currently scheduled to return on March 1, 2021, I am continuing to collect supplies that my 5th graders need.
Lastly, my students are bright, funny, social, and energetic children! My goal is to continue to instill a love of lifelong learning in them despite these trying times.
My Project
Snap cubes are a great way for students to have hands-on learning for volume! While still remote, these cubes will be sent to my students so that they can practice making rectangular prisms right along with me while they are at home!
The magnetic board and magnetic library will help my students see the math concepts in action!
Practicing decimal and fraction operations are a huge part of grade 5 math! The magnetic easel and the magnetic library will free my hand and allow me to visually show these concepts to my students virtually! The assorted colors of dry erase markers will also help visual learners.
