Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Kindergarten to some of the hardest working 5 and 6 year-olds around! They love to learn and get their hands dirty. My students live in an extremely low income area which often limits their exposure to life experiences. Because of this, I try to bring as many real-life discoveries into our classroom that I can. My students take on every challenge head-on and would love to have a science-based classroom!
My students work really hard to achieve our classroom goals, I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
Sometimes, that includes having some basic needs met before they are able to learn. I would like to provide them with resources they may not already have access to, to help them to be healthier, happier students.
My Project
My students would like some math practice activities to take home, and follow along with using the CDs. My students have helped me to come up with some incredible projects this year to help build literacy at home. With the help of Donorschoose and so many other incredible donors, we have received CD players for students to borrow and listen to stories at home! My goal with this project was to take the incredible gifts we have received and help build our Mathematical skills as well. Too many students do not have anyone to help them extend their learning at home.
With this project, no student will be without a tutor at home!
I would have students who take home books to listen to reading , also check out these Math centers each night. That way, at least once a week each child would have an in-home tutor helping them with their work at home! This project could be a total game changer for many of my students! They work extremely hard and love to learn, yet for many of them, getting the help they need is almost impossible due to language barriers, working/busy families and confusion on how to teach certain skills. I believe this is a project that could change many students' lives and help them to really understand and love to learn! I know that it will help connect our classroom and families and build some incredible pathways to learning! Thank you for your time and consideration!
