My students need 21 books, including works by Walter Dean Myers, Nikki Grimes and Toni Morrison.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Collier's classroom raised $291
This project is fully funded
I work in a large urban district. I teach in an integrated fifth grade classroom with many struggling students.
Many of the students in our schools come from homes where books are not as plentiful as we would like. It is my goal to increase the amount of time students spend reading by introducing students to different types of literature. This year I want to show students how math and books are connected, and how we can use that connection to increase both our math and reading skills.
I am seeking several books that present scenarios in which the students can use math to solve different types of problems. In addition to books that illustrate the math literacy connection, I would like to add several other titles to our classroom library. When students have books that are interesting they are more likely to want to read that book again and again. I want my students to be introduced to quality literature about children that are a lot like them.
Your help will make it possible to create a print rich environment in my classroom. You can help my students to explore the links between math and reading in meaningful ways.
