My students are always the first set of smiles that I see walking towards me and are always eager to get to school in the morning. They come in with the willingness to work hard and an enthusiasm for learning.
School should not just be a place for my students to learn about academics, but to learn about themselves.
I work in a school that has a high level of poverty. Eighty-five percent of the students in my school receive free or reduced-price breakfast or lunch. Most of my students come from a background of trauma and require not only academic support but social and emotional support throughout the day. My goal is to make their school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations for all of my students.
I want to prepare them for the next steps in their lives and also teach them that anything is possible if they set their mind to it and work hard!
My Project
Please help my students get the supplies that they need to assist in their re-entry into school. With all of the new realities after COVID-19, when we return to school students will need more individual supplies than ever before. To minimize the potential spread of germs, I am asking for enough supplies that my students will have access to their own without the need to share in groups. These math manipulatives will allow my students to participate in lessons each day from their home or individual space.
My hope is that through this approach, my students will stay healthy and engaged in school activities while keeping each other safe.
My goal is to create the best learning environment possible for my students as soon as they are able to return to our school.
