I provide math intervention for grades 1 - 8 at an elementary/middle school in a high-need community.
Our students struggle with basic math fact knowledge and problem solving skills. They simply don't have a high interest in mathematics, thus lacking motivation to want to try harder and study. Making mathematics a little more "fun" while still learning is one way we believe we can "hook" them into becoming successful mathematicians.
Using small group instruction and educational games, it is our hope that we can address these deficits and make significant gains in their areas of weakness. Children of all ages love games ... what a better way to teach math facts and problem solving strategies! While playing a board game with peers and an instructor, the students will WANT to do the "work" rather than feel defeated before they begin or quit early because they become frustrated, bored, or overwhelmed. Not only will the students be improving their mathematical skills, but their social skills will greatly improve as well.
