My Students
Can you imagine being 10 years old and not having any math manipulatives to learn certain concepts? Well my students do not have what they need to learn all their math concepts! I teach Fifth Grade at a low income public school.
Many of my students come from families that have low income and minimal formal education.
About 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. With the economy in the crisis it is in, getting help from families that are struggling is not possible. Please help my students become more active mathematical problem solvers.
My Project
My Students need these manipulations and games to help them better understand fractions. Being able to manipulate fraction multipliers, and solve word problems with fractions in a game setting will help my students to better understand them. Using real life word problems helps students to see the need to comprehend these concepts for later in life. Using manipulatives and hands-on activities during math instruction proves to enhance students learning experience and ensures success for many students, especially fragile learners. Bringing math to life and holding high expectations will help my students to be successful on their end of grade testing at the end of the year. Many students come to 5th grade afraid of math and feeling like they are failures. My job, is to get them to LOVE math and feel SUCCESSFUL!
