My Project
I am now teaching Math to the entire 5th grade population of seventy students. I am looking for ways to put hands-on learning materials in their grasp to make learning Math concepts easier for them. When students can physically touch the manipulatives and move them around, Math becomes easier and more understandable to them.
Manipulatives help students learn by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning .
The use of the manipulatives such as the gigantic magnetic graph chart, magnetic fraction cirlces, and write wipe boards will help the students hone their mathematical thinking skills.
Ideas exist in children's minds, and manipulatives help them construct an understanding of ideas that they can then connect to mathematical concepts.
