My students need more hands-on materials, such as fraction multipliers, Rekenreks, and puzzles, to have fun, engaging math activities.

My Students
My classroom is a warm and welcoming home for my students. I have changed positions from a 4th grade self-contained class to Math Intervention. MI is an elective course for all grades Kdg-8. I see students once or twice a week to support their math skills.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
Students in my building are the most diverse in the district. I have students from all around the world as well as a wide variety of special needs. Students from Nepal, Africa, and Latin America as well as the U.S. learn together despite their various language abilities. The special needs students range from mild cognitive issues to full medically fragile, such as cerebral palsy.
My students are all special in their own way. They are eager to learn, eager to do well and a pleasure to work with. I try to engage them in multiple ways to reach their learning levels and find ways for them to grow and achieve.
My Project
My goal is to create a fun, hands-on math learning experience for my students. I buy materials every weekend to support my classroom activities from dice to playing cards to dominoes. I create games from old standards like Rummy and change it to Math Facts Rummy or Multiplying War. The materials I hope to buy with this project will add to the available materials these students will use and the variety of games/activities I can create.
I avoid worksheets and keep things exciting but supporting the various math skills at multiple levels.
Additional materials, like the multiplying fractions tiles and the allowance game, will meet a skill need I'm currently lacking. Students love games and activities and don't even realize they are practicing and strengthening their math skills.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
