My Students
Some of my students have not yet mastered fractions, decimals and percents.
I teach Math and Science for 6th grade General Education, as well as 6th Grade Math Intervention.
I am fortunate to be part of a Title 1 School that strives for excellence. We meet students' needs in rigorous teaching strategies and expect only the best from our students.
My Project
Fractions, decimals and percents are math concepts that students struggle with from early on in their math career. When my 6th graders come to me for Math Intervention, they struggle with fractions and decimals. In my Math Intervention class, I want to create math stations that focus on decimals, fractions and percents. I am requesting manipulative, such as number lines, rulers, bingo, flashcards, and the math clever ball that will be used to reteach and provide hands-on practice with the basic math concepts of decimals, fractions, and percents. Centers will be created so students will have opportunities to experience each manipulative in a small group setting, such as reducing fractions flashcards with a partner. The math posters will be used to reteach as a whole group instruction before students head to the centers. The goal is to tackle these math concepts and strive for students to have confidence and mastery to apply when they go back to their regular math class.
My students need all the practice, help and resources they can get with work with fractions, decimals and percents.
Learning these math concepts is foundational for so many real-world application (shopping with percents, fractional measuring with cooking, etc.) as well as making them successful in the rest of their math career: middle and high school, and college and career bound.
