This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a second-grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the Hells Kitchen, NYC. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians.
They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if it's writing, social studies, or math.
What can I say? We are great!
My Project
As a second grade teacher, there are many foundational math skills my students need to learn each year. One way that my students are able to get a concrete understanding of specific mathematic skills is through hands-on learning.
With this project, students will be able to take math instruction materials home with them.
Looking forward to the fall, we have an understanding that some learning will take place at home and some in our classroom. With these materials, students will be able to have their own math manipulatives to use in our classroom and while at home.
I will also be able to make my students math toolkits for both home and school. With these materials, I will be able to teach my second graders the skills they need to be successful mathematicians in the classroom and remotely.
