Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These past two years, I have been adapting the book Building Thinking Classrooms into my pedagogy and have found it to be an immersive way to dive into the curriculum. My students are better at showing their thinking on the whiteboards and communicating with each other when having to work through problems together. But one thing I noticed that I can do better on is formalizing the key concepts of each lesson and making connections across units and lessons. This is where interactive math notebooks comes to play!
To formalize the learning happening at the whiteboards and in the workbook, I want to incorporate interactive notebooks where students can take notes, solve example problems, and reflect on their understanding in a creative and organized way.
Therefore my biggest ask of this project are the graph ruled composition notebooks which is the foundation to start this new idea. The graph ruling helps students align their math work neatly and accurately, which is especially important for topics like graphing, geometry, and algebra. I also included items such as glue sticks, pencils, lead, markers and such to help with the creation of these notebooks. I also found these great manipulatives that help students visualize math in a tactile way. Lastly, I did add a few extra things to help preserve assignments and be able to keep master copies to use less paper such as lamination sheets and storage boxes. Thank you for your time!
