This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a kindergarten class in a LARGE URBAN AREA in Northern California. We are a high need community with high poverty but we have high dreams and hopes. We are a very special little bunch as we are so so smart, but have not been given the best start in life. We use school as therapy, as a place to be a child to grow and be away from lives some of us lead that are not so happy. Our teacher tries to create the most special place to be a child.
We are looking for a lot of math supplies.
Our school and state have become bankrupt. For schools in high poverty areas that mean there is virtually no extra funding for anything. There is no PTA at our school, we do not have fund raisers and almost 80% of the school eats free lunch. The math supplies we are looking for will enrich our connection to math. Our teacher loves math!!! She always tries to find interesting ways to connect math with the real world. For example last year we learned about grouping 4 sets of 8 by grouping handmade spiders. Our teacher...she's crazy, lol, but we have fun and we get to get away from a lot of life's reality when we come to school.
My Project
The solution is simple. Please donate what you can. We know this is a lot to ask for as far as donations, but all the games and number practice books ( going green not using paper yeah!) will go a very long way. Furthermore, next year's students will be able to use all the supplies donated. It will be a never ending story. My teacher just had two children in the last three years, so she can longer use her own money as she still does, on the classroom all the time. With your donation, you will be helping hundreds of high poverty students discover math. Who knows, one day they could be your boss??
Your kind donation of 10 dollars or more will go a long long way.
We will do you proud as when we get our supplies we will go right to work using all the linking cubes, where we can have tons of fun learning all sorts of math games. We love donors choose as it has turned our classroom into a little slice of mathematical heaven.
With love and math,
