Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students declare their favorite subject each year and most often, by the end of the school year, it's MATH. I always strive to improve the math culture within my classroom and school. Sometimes people feel math can be overwhelming or different since the introduction of Common Core State Standards, but it's just a more concrete and visual way to teach concepts. Every year is a unique challenge to make the classroom math rich and to make learning as engaging as possible. My students are active, engaged kinesthetic learners. Students learn best when they are able to explore and make their learning concrete. Year after year, students love playing math games and more hands-on manipulatives to challenge themselves and one another to be stronger mathematicians. After all, if my students are happy, challenged, and engaged, they will see math in a positive light and push themselves to reach their goals.

My Project

My future students are active and hands-on learners who need frequent movement, games and interactive activities to keep them engaged. I would like to provide the ultimate experience for my mathematicians while learning new concepts. My third graders will have their first exposure to multiplication, division and fractions this year and the materials in this project will provide hands-on experience and great visuals to help my learners understand and retain mathematical concepts in a concrete way. My formers students have loved similar math manipulatives in the past so these are sure to be a hit with my new scholars!
