My students need the Math in a Flash! Discovery cans, which include hands on math manipulative to practice their math skills in and out of the classroom. The supplies will be used during and after school.

My Students
This year I will have a wide range of students. Most of my students are Native American. Some that are eager to learn, others that will need that extra push to succeed. The children seem to work really well together and encourage each other.
I believe that all students can and will learn regardless of ethnicity.
They just need to be nurtured and encourage to succeed. Some just need to know that they are loved and can achieve their goals as long as they don't quit and never give up.
My Project
The project that inspired my project was Marvelous Math Take Home Bags. I believe it was a good fit because some of my students need extra help with their math skills and hands on manipulative are a great way to engage the students. However, the materials will be used in our after school program and not be sent home.
Not every child learns the same, therefore; we as teachers need to engage every child whether it be visually, auditory or kinetically.
Often times, they don't even realize they are learning but they are.
The Math in a Flash! Discovery cans include a variety of hands on manipulative that my students will use to identify basic 2-D and 3-D shapes, basic addition and subtraction skills, measurement and data skills, money recognition and how to count coins, and telling time. These discovery cans will provide students the extra help needed for them to succeed in the classroom, while providing the opportunity to have fun while learning each skill during our after school program.
The dominoes, ten frame dice and the ten frames will be used to teach subitizing, which is recognizing a set of numbers without counting. My students will learn how to recognize a group of numbers without counting. When they see the dots on the dominoes or the dice the will simply be able to say that number.
The Magna tiles 3-D Geometric shapes and magnetic pattern blocks will also be used for shapes identification and construction of different shapes. All of these hands on materials will provide the students with independent practice on their math skills, while having fun learning.
