This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If you say the word 'math' to children you can see the fear and disgust in their eyes! Kids describe math as difficult and boring. In a world full of video and computer games, it is easy to see why they feel this way. As a math cluster teacher, it is my job to teach math in a new and exciting way.
In the course of a week, I see 25 classes.
The children range in ages and grades from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. My school is located in New York and is a Title 1 school. The children all receive free breakfast and lunch and come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
My Project
The resources I'm requesting are interactive games that can be played on a Smartboard. They can be played whole class or in small groups. They will be used by me to review math skills in a fun and unusual way for the students. This way, the classes I teach will get the math reinforcement they need in a way that doesn't feel like traditional education - more than just the everyday lesson. These games will help me reach my children in a new way that will excite them and draw them in.
My goal as a math teacher is to foster a positive attitude towards math.
With a positive attitude comes the effort and interest in learning more and becoming a better student. These interactive games with help me reach my goal by making math fun for my students!
