My Students
Early childhood learning is unique. Research shows that students retain information best when they are learning it through hands-on activities and discovery, instead of just listening to a teacher talk.
My incoming kindergarten students would benefit highly from hands-on, math activities to enhance their mathematical growth and progress.
These young learners require additional resources to help the learning "stick." Play-based learning in early childhood is the most ideal way to solidify the learning they are hearing at school. These young learners are such a joy to work with and I love watching kiddos have their own "A-HA!" moments when they finally grasp a concept they have been struggling with.
My Project
When students enter kindergarten, some have never before seen a classroom. Never held a pencil or read a book, never heard the term "count." Others have been in academic daycare settings for years and are already able to read and write numbers, count to 100 and add simple numbers.
These games are carefully chosen to use in small-group settings for math interventions for those that need extra help to learn numbers and match quantities, or extension activities for those that can already do these things on their own.
Having activities to meet the ability levels of all students in my classroom, will enhance my ability to help ALL students grow at their own pace.
