Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade in San Diego. My school is in a low-income area. In fact, all of our students receieve free lunch.
I am very excited because I am looping with my students this year!
Meaning I’ll have last year's fourth-grade students as fifth graders!! I’m so excited because we’ve created this amazing bond that gets to continue.
I watched this group of kids start to truly believe in themselves. They are not afraid to work hard and they love to celebrate their success!
My Project
So I have a huge span of levels in my room. I have several students working at 7th grade math level and others around a 1st grade level. It can be very hard to keep everyone engaged. Some finish really quickly while other are still struggling to understand.
These games will engage my higher students during Math rotations.
I want my students to still feel challenged and have fun and not always feel like they are waiting for others. I do not want them to feel discouraged as I work to help those who are still struggling.
I specifically chose these games so the students will have fun all while sharpening their math skills.
4 Way Countdown and Zap! are games that will help my students who are still working on some mastering some basic operations. Monkey mayhem will help my kids who are struggling with basic phonics.
Matological Liar, Zoom!, and Block by Block will challenge my students at or above grade level.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
