Math Games for Challenge, Fun, Engagement, Practice
My students need math games to stretch their thinking and to challenge them!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is located in Washington state at a Title One school. Students at my school are hardworking, kind, eager individuals. Many students are first and second generation citizens from Africa, South America and Asia. About forty-two percent of students qualify for English Language Learner services, but up to fifty percent of students speak a language other than English in the home. Our differing cultures, backgrounds, economic statuses and languages provide richness in the classroom, but we also face challenges. One challenge is that we are incredibly underfunded. At our school, eighty-three percent of our students qualify for free or reduced price school lunch.
There are so many experiences and learning opportunities I wish I could have with our students if only I had the means.
My Project
Students will benefit from playing math games that engage, teach, and allow students to practice new and learned skills.
The students will enjoy learning and be eager to practice math while playing games and having fun learning.
They will encourage each other by using competition while demonstrating positive sportsmanship. My many English Language Learners will have a safe and fun time practicing English in a nonintimidating way as they play.
Many students struggle with the basic operations and concepts of math. Games that would help them with this would be Winning Moves RACK-O, Learning Resources Snap It Up! Math: Add/Sub Card Game, and Super Genius Addition. By playing games, the students are learning without feeling intimidated by what they don't know. Often times students find learning to be stressful and decide it's not worth the effort. When students are playing games, they don't realize they are learning most of the time.
We need games to further students enjoyment and mathematical thinking in interesting ways as well. Games that would help students grow like this are ThinkFun Roller Coaster Challenge STEM Toy and Building Game, Simon Electronic Memory Game, Balance Beans Game, and many more.
I've also included boxes to store these games and others purchased from DonorsChoose.org.
Please help bring math games and materials into my class for my students to play and learn with. Thank you in advance.
