Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These items will be used to help make a fun, welcoming, and exciting environment for the students. These students are exceptionally bright but lack motivation to reach their full potential. Hopefully these resources can help excite them to push through those feelings.
The desk chair will be used to replace the current broken one in the classroom that was being used as a reward and incentive for students.
The wobble chairs will help with the students who have a hard time focusing in class because they have to constantly be moving. The Joy-Con controllers, joycon charging stand, and the oculus charging stand are to help with activities I currently do in class. I will bring in a Nintendo Switch to play Mario Kart and Mario Party which I use in a variety of math games and class competitions such as in Mario Kart when we run time trials on courses and use the lap times for math problems relating to the current standards such as Standard 7.NS.A.2: Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers. We can also use it when the students work in groups to race and get answers to problems in order to send up a student to compete in a Mario Party Mini game for points to have their team rewarded at the end. Currently only two students can play, but with the extra controllers and charging stand, I can have more students play and make sure they stay charged for every class. The oculus is used to for a variety of interactive puzzle games similar to Mario Party, but it dies quickly. The pencils are to supply them to students who have forgotten them.
