This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My pre-school class consists of girls and boys who are energetic and eager to learn and have never been to school. Teaching preschool allows me the opportunity to spark a love of learning in math and reading before they enter kindergarten. I have been an educator for 28 years in OKCPS and teaching during a pandemic has been very challenging. I can say that this unique experience has challenged me to be more creative in the classroom. We have mixed virtual , A/B & in-person learning over the past 2 years. I have learned new ways of teaching and have found that exciting and difficult all at the same time. Engaging preschool children virtually requires hard work and dedication and lots of energy. There have been so many ups and downs but knowing that you are giving 100% to your students makes the hard work of teaching in a pandemic rewarding.

My Project

To help amid the pandemic the following materials have been selected to help me spark a love of number recognition and counting skills. The Giant Number Steps, Build a Number House Activity, Number Rockets, Number Rubbing Plates and the Magnetic Counting Activity will create an engaging way to teach these important concepts. I selected doll furniture to help engage vocabulary and social interaction for my doll house area. I also selected a computer monitor to help increase engagement when we teach virtually. The screen sharing option of Google Meet is very useful and beneficial for me and my students. This amazing feature proves to be a great advantage that brings plenty of possibilities.

In light of COVID-19 in preschool, it is my responsibility as a teacher to help motivate and provide a fun engaging way to work on the academic area of math in my classroom.

I have selected these materials to help make number recognition and counting more engaging in the classroom. I know my students will love the Giant Number Steps as well as all the other materials selected.

Funding this project would most certainly bring my dream learning activities to life. Having a variety of hands-on materials that are fun and engaging would increase participation from the students and help make teaching math skills more enjoyable for me. I love teaching preschool and am always trying to find activities that are engaging.
