My students need addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, money, and fraction flashcards to use with their families at home; and dice, counting chips, and linking cubes to help them with homework.
My students are incredible! My students are in first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with a disability. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All of my students come from high poverty areas and all of my students love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensures this.
My Project
I work with the best families in the city. They are all invested in their children and their education. They are willing to work with them at home to reinforce grade level skills and concepts. Many of my students just need more time working with skills and concepts compared to their peers. Often, families do not have the means to buy flashcards and math manipulatives. I created this project so I can provide families with the materials needed to reinforce their children's learning. These materials will be used at home with support from me in school. I will train families on how to best utilize these materials and explain to them how their child/children will benefit from using these materials. These materials support the NBT standards at each grade level and will be distributed based on current performance and needs.
If I receive these materials I will tailor my homework assignments to utilize these incredibly useful math manipulatives and teach families how to effectively use the flashcards by playing games and repetition.
