My Students
My students are a lovable set of kids who enjoy life! Many come from difficult situations and a tough neighborhood where there are a lot of factors pulling them in every direction to do the wrong thing.
When they come to school, it is often difficult for them to switch into learning mode without the right tools and materials.
As a school, we hope to help our students by giving them an excellent foundation for their further education. My students hold high hopes for their futures, and I hope to equip them to hold themselves to high expectations for their life.
My Project
It is essential for students in elementary to be able to experience their learning in a concrete way. This phase of learning requires significant knowledge building with tactile resources before students can apply that knowledge of skills and concepts, and create fluency with their facts and understanding.
Math manipulatives are an amazing way to get students visualizing the numbers from their paper into real life.
It helps them see what their numbers and math really mean. The goal of this project is to get more of these manipulatives in the hands of students on a more frequent basis.
In this project, I am requesting dice, tangrams, fraction model multipliers, math cubes, and number lines to help students have a more concrete understanding of their mathematical learning. I am also requesting some book resources and flash card games to help provide more examples of how we can use manipulatives in the class, and games for increase math fact fluency.
