This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The TK students at this school are curious and engaged learners that have a drive to constantly practice the skills they are learning in their classrooms. The great outdoors is a perfect place to practice the math skills that they are learning about in the classroom.

These balls, catch a ball sets, and pop and pass ball games will provide the students with active math games and activities will get kids up and moving while using their whole bodies to learn and apply mathematical facts and skills.

Not only will these games provide the young mathematicians in this classroom with critical hand eye coordination practice, but they will also give the students opportunities to count with one to one correspondence and apply math skills outside of the classroom. The games we will play with these materials will challenge students to engage in multiplicative thinking by engaging them in a series of sets and reps. For example you will complete 2 sets of 5 catches standing. How many catches is that in total? In an obstacle course format, students will answer addition and subtraction facts at each station and then toss and catch their ball that number of times. Students will also use their ball catching time to engage in skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, then they will compare their number of catches to that of another classmate--or group--and decide who caught more and who caught less.

Integrating math into physical education allows students to develop both mentally and physically simultaneously. Physical activities become more than just exercises, as they also challenge students cognitively, facilitating a well rounded learning experience, and your donation to this project can support this wholistic growth and development in these students.
