Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have so many personalities and needs, and as their teacher I really try my best to service them all. One thing that I have realized though is that my students are advocates for their education. Many of them are invested in coming to school everyday to gain knowledge that will help them go a long way.
Many of my students are 1st generation college bound students, and they are only in middle school!
If I can get them knowing more about college and providing them with so many different resources, and if that means providing them will classroom supplies or even books, to help them and to relieve some stress from parents who may not be able to give that support then I am willing to help.
My students are so special because they care, they may not always show it but they care. I am so grateful to be working at a school who wants to build that classroom culture for students, so that it is a joyful place for them to learn and want to come to school.
My Project
1.5 years ago everyone in the world was impacted by the pandemic, but who was impacted most were students. Many students experienced learning loss, and that learning loss was also on top of some academic needs before. I have worked with 6th graders now for 5 years and the first skill I notice students needing help with is their multiplication and division fluency. What I have done for students is helped them make flashcards so that they can practice at home every day to build up their skills.
With how things are in the world something as simple as a set of flashcards to someone can be really hard to get for some of my students.
So I want to help relieve their stress and give them the opportunity to make their fluency flashcards without the worry of having to get the right supplies. Having their fluency will help them tremendously in 6th grade and all of their years beyond.
