This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday I look out into a sea of eager, inquisitive faces and say, "Good Morning boys and girls." My twenty-two amazing, fourth graders attend a community public school and reside in a high poverty area located in Bronx, NY. In school, they are learning to have a growth mindset and to learn how to live with empathy, flexibility, resilence, persistence and optimism.
School is their "home" and they come every day.
With the challenges they face, they enjoy reading chapter books, writing poetry and learning about science. They also love to build things and participate in art activities.
My Project
My students are desperately in need of math resources. Unfortunately, the fourth grade math curriculum is currently too difficult for my students. Therefore, I have to supplement the instruction with other resources. The fluency kit provides activities, manipulatives, and lessons that will support number sense. Students in my class desperately need manipulatives and activities to gain number sense to better understand the math curriculum. The fluency kit will be used in daily small group instruction that will be tailored to their mathematical needs. Students will also complete activities in math stations in the morning. The students can practice foundational math skills to gain the strategies for grade level success.
