My Students
Practice makes progress! This is a saying that we use because everyone can use a little extra practice to improve--and no one is perfect!
My students attend school in Southeast Michigan, just outside of Detroit.
I teach science and math enrichment to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Many of my students are at risk. More than 90% of my students are English language learners and just about that many qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
They are eager to learn despite being significantly behind their peers academically. I feel that regardless of how they enter my classroom, it is my obligation to make them feel that just because they may not have the same life experiences as other students, they can still learn!
My Project
When students come to my room, I have 45 minutes to engage them and make learning fun! Many times, I have a mini math workshop model in addition to what they have already done with their classroom teacher to help reinforce some of the math concepts being taught throughout the day.
I feel that having these math tower fact practice games as part of our math rotation, students will be practicing math facts, which can sometimes be boring and monotonous, in a fun way. My students are competitive and love a challenge! These games are also great because I will be able to have a variety of math facts for students at different levels. Students will be able to feel like they are involved in the same activities as their peers, yet at their level.
With your donation, you will help bring some fun back in to my enrichment classroom!
The math tower fact practice games will be a way that my students will be able to practice math facts with a friend and also be able to accommodate students at varying levels.
