Math Doesn't Need to be Scary!

Help me give my students whiteboard materials that will make mathematics more tangible and process-oriented as well as classroom posters that will make mathematics more approachable!

My Project

Mathematics is truly wonderful! However, math education has an unfortunate knack for creating environments that leave students feeling discouraged and disinterested. For many students, it can seem as if they have no ability to be successful in the math classroom. I'm sure some of you might have felt this way in your own educational experiences! Every day, I have passionate, smart, and capable students enter my classroom. My goal is to help each of them understand that they can find success and even a bit of joy in math! The products in my DonorsChoose project will go a long way to help me in this goal.

By donating to this project, you will help my students find joy in the learning process and develop tools that will allow them to solve complex problems.

I have found whiteboards to be an invaluable resource for students in math. It allows them to find a greater sense of joy in mathematics by seeing it as a process, not simply a race to find an answer. They can modify problems on the fly, learn from mistakes and correct them without starting completely from scratch, and work with peers more easily. The dry erase markers, dry erase boards, and algebra tiles will help us use this process all year long. The classroom posters help make math more approachable to students. The concepts shown give students the tools they need to approach problems that require creativity, complexity, and critical thinking, instead of focusing on memorizing a seemingly endless list of facts. In addition, the vibrant colors create a welcoming environment for students.

With the donations from this product, I will be able to help students have a much more positive outlook on their math education. Thank you so much for contributing to this cause!
