My Students

My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hardworking, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with disabilities.

All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.

They come from high poverty areas, and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful, and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.

My Project

Manipulatives, which are hands-on tools for teaching math and other subjects, are a great way to reach tactile and visual learners. In fact, a 2001 review of 14 educational studies found that all students could benefit from the use of manipulatives. Further, the studies highlighted that students with special needs, those whose first language is not English, and high-risk students made the highest gains when manipulatives were a significant part of the curriculum. Anything that makes learning fun while improving performance is a win for students and teachers alike. The use of manipulatives helps students hone their mathematical thinking skills. This project will allow students to fun counting math manipulatives to use with their families at home! They will have the opportunity to pick which counters they would like to have at home to help with their homework and math development.

Counters are helpful in teaching children basic math skills such as counting, sorting, and patterning.

It is essential to provide children with a variety of counters to use for different activities to promote participation and keep them engaged. Giving children specific tasks to complete using counters helps aid their mathematical development. According to Stein and Bovalino (2001), “Manipulatives can be important tools in helping students to think and reason in more meaningful ways.
