Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the most curious and inquisitive 5-6 year olds! They love to ask me questions like, "Do you have books about dinosaurs?" or "How does the smart board work?" Most of my students are of Hispanic decent who love to talk about their families from El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala and Ecuador. Furthermore, the majority of my students are classified as English Language Learners.
I want continue building their love for learning and discovery through creating math centers that are hands on and provide them various ways to express their learning and thinking.
My Project
Learning how to count, sort and recognize numbers are some of the essential Kindergarten skills that I want my students to master through the exploration of the various materials like counters and writing on visually appealing charts. Therefore, these materials will help my students understand important mathematical concepts they need to be successful.
Mostly importantly, they will also give my students options to explore numbers according to the way they learn best, whether its through hands on manipulation of materials or visually looking at anchor charts that are support their learning.
