This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I teach Kindergarten at an urban public school in Illinois. We have 34 eager Kindergarteners in our class! Most of my students speak English as their second language and are bilingual in both English and Spanish. Nearly all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and every student eats a free breakfast in our classroom each morning.

My students are eager to learn and love math! However, since many are learning English as their second language, math concepts can be difficult for them to understand. My Kindergarteners need math materials to engage them in math activities!

You can help out my Kindergarteners! I have asked for math related games and manipulatives so that my students can have hands-on math experiences during math center time! I have asked for a cash register with toy money so that they can "buy" items from each other and come to understand the value of different coins and bills. By using a pan balance my students will learn to estimate and weigh objects! The analog and digital clocks are games that the students will have fun playing and learn an essential skill. I have asked for several different lacing, measuring liquids and sorting games so that the students can learn these important math based skills too.

Your help will make it possible for my bilingual Kindergarteners to be fully engaged in exciting math centers that help them develop essential mathematical skills. You will be helping my students build a solid understanding of and interest in math at the very beginning of their education! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my proposal!
