My Students
We spent the first week of school talking about how to have the BEST class for the BEST school year ever. We discussed words that would help us become the best. At the end of the week, my class chose the words; brave, kind, and respectful to focus on.
I see my students choosing to be brave, kind and respectful every day.
We have two students who have special needs and I often see kids being kind by including them, helping them stay organized or encouraging them. We recently had an individual reward drawing and one student shared his reward with another student because he could see that the student was sad that he didn't win this time. My students bravely answer questions even when they are not sure they are correct, read their own stories to the class, tell the truth and show up even when they have difficult things happening in their home life. One student recently responded to a writing activity with details about how hard it is for her now that her parents are getting a divorce. My students exemplify respect by being good listeners, showing gratitude and finding ways to serve others.
My Project
Our afternoons begin with whole group math instruction, as kids finish up, I would really like to have the ability to seamlessly transition into small group instruction. This math cart will provide my students with interesting and engaging activities to work on independently while I work with small groups of students.
Small group instruction is invaluable in deepening understanding or filling in gaps for students.
Having a cart full of quality ready to go activities will ensure that I have plenty of time to focus on my students' needs while the rest of the class is continuing to learn independently.
