My Students
I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.
As the 2016 and 2019 Teacher of the Year as well as an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.
My Project
Math books for children are an important component in helping students make a connection to what they are learning in school. Pictures and math concepts come alive when they are featured in books.
Children deserve the chance to explore math through a picture book.
They deserve to have a teacher read a math book to them during the math block. They deserve to have a math book that they can read to a buddy. Every math book deserves to have a child hold it and say I love this book.
