My Project
One of my most deeply held beliefs about how children learn is that when we can integrate different subjects, we create deeper levels of understanding. Students will remember what they read about animal habitats if they create an art project displaying them.
They will understand how to utilize measurement better if they
are performing experiments that require precise attention.
One of the areas that has historically been difficult to connect is reading and math. However, over recent years there have been many good books written to incorporate math concepts into stories. I am asking for several books that will engage students in various mathematical skills through the art of story. Giving students visuals through books will help them to build upon their mathematical understanding. Being able to link these concepts to fun, engaging literature will increase their chances of retaining skills. These books focus on different math standards, such as fractions, multiplication, area, perimeter, geometry, and number sense.
