My Students
I am a 7th grade middle school math teacher. I teach in a low income, high needs area. I teach math in two types of classrooms- special ed and SETSS. Our students strive to be the best, but lack the resources that they need to succeed.
I remember when I was a student, seeing the look of discouragement and defeat on the faces of other students that were unable to bring supplies in at the beginning of the school year because their families were struggling financially.
I don't want my students to start the year feeling this way. The majority of the students in my school qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Due to the budget cuts that schools have endured, it is impossible to supply every student with the resources they need to succeed.
My Project
My students need to begin their year with an inviting classroom. They need basic supplies such as colored pencils, and most especially scientific calculators and flash drives.
These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning because by having the technology at their fingertips that they need in order to succeed academically in the classroom, their minds will be at ease and excited to learn by using them.
By donating to our project, you will be adding to their excitement to learn which will increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not worry about how they are going to show up in class without their required materials. By interacting daily with updated technology it will increase the desire to learn and use the new technology!
When students come into the classroom in September, I want them to see an inviting classroom where their needs are met. These materials will definitely help me to prepare my classroom.
