This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are loud and proud! Despite many socioeconomic obstacles, they continue to show up for life. Because they live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the United States and have to face hurdles most people would quickly be disillusioned by, these kids need our support.

My students are aware of the benefits of education, and are willing to do whatever is needed to achieve success.

Their resiliency constantly amazes me, and I am honored to be a part of their lives.

My Project

My 8th grade students are currently being given an opportunity to participate in a New York City program called Algebra 4 All. The program enables all 8th graders access to the New York State Algebra 1 curriculum along with the opportunity to take and pass the Common Core Algebra 1 Regents exam. With this computer, my students can access and analyze current stock market volatility and apply knowledge of exponential growth and decay to real-world scenarios. Through studying the markets, my students will increase their knowledge of functional relationships as well as general financial literacy. Studying real-world scenarios always helps students access useful and powerful knowledge.
