Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine not having a computer in your home or a way to access the internet. This is what most of my students face if they are not exposed to technology at school.

My students are in kindergarten at an inner city school in California.

The school is on 100% free breakfast and lunch program. My students come from homes where English is the second language spoken and access to computers and the internet in the home is very unlikely. They love to learn on the old computers we already have and I want to give them access to modern technology at a young age. When my students are first introduced to computers they are so excited to learn how they work. By the end of the year most learn how to log on to the internet all by themselves and can maneuver through certain websites without my help.

My Project

Having access to computers in the classroom will be another way for my students to learn. They will gain access to learning through the several educational websites the internet offers. They will learn how to listen and follow directions, as well as practice math and science through games and tutorials on the internet. Computers and internet offer a new way for the children to learn and get extra practice on skills they may need help with. Above all, the children will learn the in's and out's of a computer and the internet. This type of exposure to computers may result in future careers in computer science or other careers that require individuals to be able to navigate the computer.

The biggest impact that getting these new computers will provide is the learning opportunities that will become available to my students.

Children learn in many ways and through different means, so having this available to them increases their chances for success in the future.
