Math and Science for Little Ones

My students need math and science manipulatives such as wood pieces, die, sand and counters to learn their numbers and science concepts, as well as a carpet to sit on and seat pockets to store materials.

My Students

This will be my first year teaching special education, after 13 years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. My students are special needs students who need a lot of hands on materials to gain their interest, as well as to help them learn. They range from being verbal to non-verbal, from readers to non-readers, and from independent to students requiring extra support. No matter their disability, they are all special and unique and I want to help make coming to school special and fun.

My Project

I am requesting different types of sand so that they can run their hands through to feel different textures. The math manipulatives will allow them to have concrete objects to touch, sort and handle as they try to count or place items in sorting boxes. Some of the manipulatives are extra large so that they are large enough for them to grasp easily.

I am requesting seat sacks so that they can store their communication folders and have them for easy access.

The carpet will allow my students the opportunity to lay down and relax or read a good book.
