This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing English learners who have to keep up with their peers despite poverty, trauma, and with language barriers. Still they are eager to learn and they love hands on activities. We use many of these things to develop academic language and experience cements their learning in a way that talking to them doesn't. I'm so excited to use things like the play dough to make numbers and give them a real number sense. These concrete tools like paints and Elephant chains will help us to experience numbers in a new and exciting way. We will still count to 100 every day with music, but we really need to know that 8 is one more than 7 and we can see it clearly with these tools.
