Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a passionate third grade teacher. I have nineteen bilingual students. I believe children deserve to learn from fun and creative activities.
One of my students' favorite subject is math. The other day, I introduced a money lesson by reading a picture book about it. My students were surprised, because I was reading a book during a math lesson. I told them that math and reading are cousins. I explained to them that we can learn math from reading a fun book. Since then, when my students go to the library they try to get a book about math. Unfortunately,we don't have a great variety of them.
My students will benefit with a collection of math literature in our classroom library. They will be able to read those books independently or with a partner. I will also be able to use them as a read aloud before, during or after a lesson.
Adding a math collection to our classroom library will help my students enjoy reading as they improve their math, reading and writing skills.
I really hope that you can help me add those math books, so when my students have time to go to the library, they will have more options to choose from.
I will also have the resources to teach fun and creative interdisciplinary lessons. Remember, Math and Reading are Cousins.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
