My Project
My students connect best to new math concepts when they are able to visualize a real life application. Using these materials, students will carve their own rubber stamp, using traditional print making techniques. After creating their stamp, students will use various ink colors to create a mosaic style print on cardboard cartesian grid.
These intricate and artistic designs will be guided by the geometric concept of transformations.
Students will create their design and then analyze the translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations present in the work.
These materials will provide students a way to learn about the artistic traditions of mosaics in architecture of North Africa and the Middle East, as well as opening their eyes to the presence of geometry in many art forms.
