Math and Literature for Kindergarteners

My students need 22 book titles, including "Where The Sidewalk Ends" and "Who Sank the Boat?", along with a teaching guide.

I teach Kindergarten in Oakland, Ca. Part of the mission of our school is to integrate all areas of the curriculum including; art, music, service, science, math and literacy.

My students love listening to stories! I have found that introducing new math concepts through high quality literature serves as a great hook to peak kids interests. We use literature as a starting point for new ideas, activities and discussions.

Marilyn Burns has created a wonderful resource called Math and Literature. My math program this year, and for years to come, will be more complete with a copy of this teacher's guide and the 22 books that go along with these fabulous and well crafted lessons.

Your generous donations will make it possible for my students to enjoy the powerful experience of integrating math and literature. This collection of resources will enable students to engage in meaningful discussion, use critical thinking skills, learn new math concepts and enjoy great books all at once!
