My Project
My name is Wendy Womble and I am a kindergarten teacher in Las Vegas, NV, in my second year of teaching. When I began my journey as a teacher, I was able to find a kindergarten teacher to donate some supplies to my first classroom but I quickly realized that I would need much more to support my students in their learning. I have slowly been building my classroom supplies but I always seem to find new resources and materials that my classroom is lacking.
I am requesting materials to support my students' learning during literacy and math small groups and centers.
These materials will help with counting, pronouncing, blending, and segmenting syllables in spoken words. This aligns with the kindergarten reading standards in foundational skills for the Nevada Academic Content Standards for ELA. This will also help support students with knowing number names and the count sequence, counting to tell the number of objects, and comparing numbers (counting and cardinality). This aligns with the kindergarten math standards for the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Mathematics.
My school, MLFES, is in a particular part of Las Vegas that serves a wide range of students with a wide range of needs. The school serves a multicultural, diverse group of students, as well as educates and provides for the needs of a low-income to middle-class student population. In order to best serve all of their needs, I strive to provide the necessary materials for my students in order to limit the amount of supplies they need to bring to my classroom. I want them to only focus on academics and not worry about having the necessary materials in my classroom to be successful.
