My Students
When I was a student, lessons were one size fits all and boring. In my class, differentiated math and literacy centers will provide varying and exciting activities to teach necessary skills that match the needs of individual students.
My second graders are a vibrant and energetic bunch of students with a variety of learning disabilities.
Attending a public school in a high poverty urban setting, their daily challenges are huge! As their teacher, it is my job to make sure they feel safe and comfortable and are eager and ready to overcome learning challenges. I want to provide a variety of small group and independent activities that target the needs of specific students, rather than a one size fits all. Focus on instruction allows them to experience academic success in a way they don't think possible.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of math and literacy materials designed to teach and reinforce basic and necessary skills in learning stations. Students will be able to work independently or in small groups, playing "games" to practice and strengthen very necessary skill sets in math and reading/writing.
Each of my students wants to do well, but the odds are stacked against them.
Literacy and math stations are small ways I can incorporate big changes in the way they are able to access basic skills and content knowledge. These learning stations will help my students become excited about learning and catch up to their peers in basic skills and concepts!
