My students love library time! Our goal is to engage the students in meaningful and fun lessons that invite them to explore topics that interest them, to spark curiosity and creativity. The materials will assist in organizing and providing easy access to the books and resources within the library. The requested bins will be used to house our graphic novels and books by themes and titles. The glue, scissors, paper, and index cards will be used for activities, bookmarks, and library cards. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to purchase materials to use for interactive projects and hands-on learning.
Our library encourages all children, including those who use the AAC Communication boards (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
I will use the binding machine to take the students' ideas, which they have expressed using the AAC machine, and transfer them into class books. Each child will receive their own copy of the books and I will make one that will be available for all children to check out from the library. The writing lesson and its product, a book, will allow the children to see themselves as authors.
The last group of materials requested are plastic bags for our pre-K and kindergarteners to use to bring their books back and forth from school and home next year. These bags provide protection against the weather and offer a way for parents to identify which books come back on library day. The bags also help the students keep track of their books.
