Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When students relocate to another classroom for small group instruction they do not always have access to the materials and information displayed on the regular classroom bulletin boards. Charts, a calendar, and materials that can easily be moved from one location to another will be helpful.
The first and second grade students in my class attend a
Title 1 public school.
The students come from a low socio-economic area and many live in multi-family homes, one parent households, and some are being raised by grandparents or other guardians. These personal situations do not discourage the students. There are eager young learners even though our classes are larger this year. Class sizes have increased due to our state's budget issues. One-on-one teacher/student time is at more of a premium but it doesn't discourage my young learners. They love to learn and use everything available to them to do this.
My Project
Pocket charts, a calendar chart, pencil sharpeners, and math materials will provide portability when the students rotate into another room. Many of our class boards have "living charts" that are changing constantly but when students go into another room for instruction, those charts and boards are not available. Materials are needed to make portable charts and boards that can be moved during small group instruction. These portable materials will allow students to view the bulletin boards while in the regular classroom and still have access to the information while in the "other" room. Since the "other" room is used by more than one group, having a permanent board is not possible, so the next best solution is to have charts and boards that can easily be transported from room to room.
These charts, stands, sharpeners, and math materials are needed to keep learning areas equitable for all students.
When in the "other" room, students need to have all the information that is available. Your donation to this project will ensure that students have access to math concepts, language arts themes and content, spelling words, and sharp pencils. Everyone wants to learn. Everyone deserves to learn. This material will help everyone learn in a place that has what's needed!
