Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of individuals that come from all parts of the five boroughs. They come from a diverse community and speak over five different languages. They are all held at the highest standard of academic achievement and are embraced by their cultural diversity.
My students are bright individuals with various learning needs and levels of academic needs.
They value the importance of learning for growth and development. Being that we are a Title I school, there are high percentages of students that come from low-income households and yet required to meet the academic standards.
We create different opportunities for student learning and growth in the classroom that is tailored to their learning needs. It is important for my students to learn from one another and value the importance of their education as young children.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly from having organized and color-coded book bins to help them with easy access during the day. The book bins will replace the recent book bins, which are breaking apart. With color-coded book bins, they will allow easy access to books, aligned to the unit we are currently teaching. A centers management chart will also manage flexibility for students to transition to each center. In addition to color coded book bins and chart, the fraction and decimal tiles sets will be of great use. My students will have manipulatives to understand the concepts during lessons, as well as in stations. These educational kits will engage my students to help support and practice foundational skills, while also reinforcing new skills. It will also increase their knowledge and fluency with fractions, which is one of the most challenging units in math.
During centers, students will be provided with many learning opportunities that will help support their foundational skills.
The materials used during centers will help support their learning and understanding of fractions and decimals, which is essential in preparation for the statewide tests and years to come.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
