My Students
I am a school counselor and I travel between three different elementary schools (K-6). My typical day includes teaching classroom lessons, running small groups for students, and counseling students individually.
My favorite quote is, "It just takes one person to make a difference."
My students are in grades Kindergarten through 6th Grade.
Between all three of my schools, I service about 900 students.
My students are dealing with academic problems but also social and emotional issues such as: anger, anxiety, divorced parents, bullying, grief, self esteem, self-harming behaviors, etc. They are going through some of the same problems that adults do but sometimes they lack the coping skills to know how to deal with them. Our school is often the safest place in their lives, emotionally and physically.
As a school counselor, I try to be the positive influence in their lives. Someone they can come to for comfort, support, and advice. My goal is to provide a safe environment for my students to talk about their feelings, process their emotions, and leave with a smile.
My Project
It can be difficult to get students to talk or find the words to share how they feel without great tools to engage them. Helping my students to talk about their feelings, work out emotions, and get along with others is my job at my schools. No matter the child's economic status, race, culture, or language...they have one thing in common- they LOVE reading books and playing games!
I will use these materials with classrooms, small groups, and individual students to foster growth in character education, academic intervention, empathy and diversity training, feeling recognition, respect, and responsibility. Books are often the best way to engage children!
I would love to expand my comprehensive school counseling library with these books and games!
These materials will help foster learning and education for ALL my students in my three elementary schools. Support for this project will influence the lives of all my students as they navigate through elementary school and prepare for their future! Thank you so much for your help!
