My Students

My students are involved in the many aspects of Manufacturing. This area of study includes many high technology machines that include Computer Numeric Control in Mills, Lathes and Plasma cutting systems, 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, hydraulics, pneumatics and the list goes on! For each of these processes there is a different computer software that must be learned as well as multiple materials that must be used. We teach about the five families of materials so we need to have some of each all the time.

With this said, the pandemic has set our younger students way behind on their critical thinking and computer skills.

They have lost a good bit of interest in their education as a whole. Introducing these exciting manufacturing processes gets them interested in learning the software. For this we must purchase plastics and wood and 3D print filament to keep the machines running.

Our older students are moving into more complex projects that we did not have the time for during the pandemic and therefore did not keep up on the supplies needed. These students must start a business with a product of their design that they can sell.

My Project

These materials are essential for projects that teach our students about manufacturing. Manufacturing is very big in Nevada and our students need the skills required for this work.

We lost so much time in the pandemic that we could not address the State standards completely.

In order to use our 3d printers and laser engravers we need to have the proper materials and enough of them that students can do more than one small project. Our standards focus on additive and subtractive manufacturing processes so we need to have a large amount of 3D filament and plastics/wood to run our machines.

Students will use the 3D printer and laser to make small projects at first like a bottle opener or a name plate for a desk. As they progress they will design Mouse trap cars and compound pulley systems that will integrate parts from both machines into as assembly!

We have amazing technology and we need the material to put it to use. Students will not understand the impact of 3d modeling and design until they can see it produce something tangible.
