This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a self-contained special education teacher for students in grades K-1. I teach students with a variety of disabilities, including Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. My students require specialized instruction and access to adaptive curriculum materials in order to reach academic success. While I have been fortunate enough to have found a variety of adaptive curricula online, almost all of these require assembly on the part of the teacher. The materials need to be printed, laminated and then often need to be prepared with Velcro so that students can manipulate materials.
My students require access to these specialized materials and I require access to supplies in order to assemble these materials properly.
In order to make adaptive curricula for my students, I have requested a color printer, laminating pouches, Velcro, and a book binder.
Having these supplies readily available in my classroom will be of great benefit to my students as I will be able to use these supplies in order to create accessible materials for them. Some of these materials include: adaptive books, file folder activities, and task box activities.
